Microscope
243 (Victor Morlot-Maury; dissecting microscope; late 19th century to
the early 20th century)
Not much information was
found about Victor Morlot-Maury’s firm, other than that
they were manufacturers and retailers of laboratory and scientific equipment,
including microscopes (branded microscopes VMM). The firm traded from 11 Rue
de Blainville, Paris, France, and was founded in 1868 according to an advert
published in 1921 in the Revue Générale des Sciences (Figure 1). Microscope
243 is a dissecting microscope, and the stage is engraved with ‘V. M. M.
PARIS’. The instrument should be dated to the late 19th century – early 20th
century. Similar simple dissecting microscopes were sold by different
companies such as Stiassnie and Deyrolle
(Figure 2).
